Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 onion diced small
  • 2 lbs ground beef 85/15
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice freshly squeezed
  • Taco shells
  • Toppings such as cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, avocado, onions, and cilantro

Instructions

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the chili powder, cumin, coriander, smoked paprika, oregano, and cayenne. Let the spices bloom in the oil for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef and break it up with a spoon or meat chopper as it cooks. Cook until fully browned, about 6 to 8 minutes.
  • Stir in the tomato sauce, 1 tablespoon of the water, and the lime juice. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • If the filling looks too thick, stir in the remaining 1 tablespoon of water.
  • Spoon the taco meat into crunchy taco shells and top with all your favorite toppings.
